Introduction of IEM NS
History and Background
In May 1994, a group of pioneer engineers got together to form an engineering body as a branch of the national Institution of Engineers, Malaysia. Thus was formed The Negeri Sembilan Branch of the Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEMNS) as a branch for engineers residing or working in Negeri Sembilan. The aim of the branch is to bring engineers in Negeri Sembilan closer together to promote better goodwill and fellowship through regular meetings and activities like dialogues, seminars, talks and visits either of engineering related or non-technical related nature. The main reason for the formation of the branch chapter was to fill what the pioneers felt was a big void - lack of engineering fellowship activites in the state as only very rarely is any activity organised by the national body held in Negeri Sembilan. Futhermore on those rare occasions, the events are held mainly for international participation which have no special participation roles or invitations for state members. The Branch's has as its registered address the office of one of the founder members, Ir. Tiong Ngo Pu, to whom IEMNS shall br indebted. Ir. Tiong was to later become the fifth Chairman of the Branch after a long and illustrious service in the Branch Committee. Although the registered address still continue to use our past Chairman's address (with his blessings), the Branch no longer operate from that address but instead the Council continues to ‘borrow’ the premises of the Chairman or Honorary Secretary to conduct its meetings and business. Hopefully, this scenario will change later if not sooner. In 2005, the Branch led by then Chairman Dato’ Ir. Haji Ahmad Husaini bin Haji Sulaiman discussed the possibility of the Branch acquiring its own premise and decided to initiate plans and fund raising activities towards getting sufficient funds to purchase or build our own building. A Building Fund was been set up and to date a total of about Rm200,000 has been raised through various activities like dinners, talks and seminars. Through Dato’ Chairman tireless efforts, this amount included a generous contribution in 2007 of about Rm90,000 given to the Branch by our beloved benefactor, the honourable YAB Dato' Seri Utama Mohamad bin Haji Hasan, Chief Minister of Negeri Sembilan. Our fund raising efforts are still continuing and it is hoped that fellow engineers, associates and friends continue to help the Branch by contributing generously to our Building Fund. Role
IEMNS is the representative of the national engineering Institution (IEM) in Negeri Sembilan and is regularly called upon by the State Government to provide contribution to the development of the state in the form of engineering expertise. IEMNS has a crucial role as a professional body that can represent all engineers in serving the state, reaching out to as qualified engineers and to conduct activities that will attract them to join IEMNS and to establish fellowship links with other branch chapters of IEM.
